My name is Akshay Godhani, and I am a Life Scout working on my Eagle Project. An Eagle Project is typically done for a non-profit organization, and I have chosen to do mine for Challenge Me, Inc. in Andover MA. Challenge Me, Inc. (CMI), is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that oversees the Destination Imagination (DI) program in Andover, MA.
Challenge Me, Inc. helps form the teams and provides support and training to teams and team managers. DI is a non-profit organization that runs a global STEAM program. The organization poses a set of project-based challenges and groups of kids from around the world choose one challenge to address while working in teams.
My Eagle Project is to create a set of 3 types of kits that can be lent out and used by DI teams. The kits, consisting of tools, materials, and instructional videos and hands on activities, will enable kids to learn new electronics, construction, and sewingskills. This will promote increased creativity by allowing teams to have access to equipment they don’t have. Tips for Team Managers and other safety instructions will also be included.
I chose to do this project for CMI because I have participated in DI for 10 years!! It has helped me learn many life skills such as communicating, working as part of a team, being creative, and most of all skills in different areas like electronics and woodworking, which otherwise I would have never gained. I want to help other kids to have the same experience that I had with DI, to find solutions and use their creativity freely without limits.
My project requires me to build one set of each kit. One set of the three kits plus all their supplies, tools, and materials, will cost approximately $950. I am planning to put together 2 sets of each kit for each category so that it is easier for teams to share, so am looking to raise a total of $1900 for the kits and in addition, I would like to raise an additional $300 for CMI to put towards the replenishing and maintenance of kits as they are used for a grand total of $2100.
Please help me reach my goal by donating to my project.
Note from CMI: We are extremely proud of this young man for his years of participation in Destination Imagination, his leadership, and his willingness to give back to our organization. We feel honored that he has chosen to combine his two passions: Scouting and DI in this creative way. His contribution will be used for years to come by hundreds of elementary, middle and high school students.
CMI is excited to announce that we will match every dollar donated by a CMI family up to $600.
